As one of Japan’s foremost automobile manufacturers, it’s strange to think that the Lexus brand name wasn’t recognised as its own entity until just over a decade ago. The luxury vehicle division of Toyota has been developing and producing simple yet refined premium sedan, coupe, convertible and SUV vehicles for the global market since its inception in 1989. Each design in the 27 years that followed is a perfect compliment to the Lexus logo itself - stylised, creative and immersed in modernity - while the theory behind the Lexus name - a combination of ‘luxury’ and ‘elegance’ - is also not difficult to see.
Lexus’ reputation during their fledgling years was quickly set in place. Two customer complaints of deficient wiring and an overheating brake light on their LS 400 models - the brand’s first premium vehicle - quickly led to Lexus recalling all 8,000 models. Despite these imperfections, what followed was a 20-day-long exercise in Lexus firmly placing their customer service expertises in the spotlight; replacement parts were fitted to affected cars with technicians collecting, repairing and returning vehicles to customers gratis. The marque’s grasping of this opportunity from day one continues to keep the Lexus name in lights when it comes to reliability, quality and dependability; traits that feature heavily in the IS, CT and RX models that we have available.
The continuing evolvement of the Lexus brand saw the 2015 Geneva Motor Show as the setting for the global premiere of the LF-SA concept car, in what was the brand’s 25th anniversary year. The concept’s boldness and individuality was a true illustration of the passion and commitment behind each Lexus design.
