Exterior and Interior

Exterior is one of the best looking Sevens around. Interior is intentionally purposeful and utilitarian allowing the business of extracting the most out of yourself (you are the limiting factor not the car) to be undertaken.

Performance and Economy

Let's get economy out of the way first. On the long journey home on a mix of single and double carriageways and motorways, I got around 23mpg. Sounds bad but for one of the fastest accelerating road cars ever, not so bad. Performance. Standstill to maximum allowable speed on a UK public road in a smidgen over 3 seconds. The skin on your face temporarily rearranged. Only a helmet or a pair of glasses to protect you from bluebottles. A wonderful race derived floor mounted sequential gearbox. Braking performance that necessitates a 4 point harness. The ability to produce more lateral G than almost any other car without downforce. This car isn't for everyone but it sure is for me!

Like to Drive

BMW do NOT make the ultimate driving machine. Caterham do. It's utterly sublime. Where you would use a quarter turn of lock in a sports car you flick your wrist in a Seven. No matter how brave you are you won't overwhelm the front tyres. You can have as much fun as your skill level allows and you can take it to the track and grow with it. <

Faults and Repairs

Nil so far. The beauty of simplicity. There isn't much to go wrong with this car and nothing has. The dealer replaced worn rear brake discs and pads before I picked it up. Oh and although the car has only done 9500 miles it has a brand new engine. That wasn't due to a manufacturer fault though; the fault lay with an over enthusiastic previous owner changing down a gear too early on a race track...
