Overview

"VERY expensive the older it got!!!!"

Exterior and Interior

Really stylish interior and exterior. Even at 7-8 years old (when I bought it) both were holding up to the test of time. The cloth interior was sometimes a problem if you had stickly little hands in the back but car seat covers soon made it childproof.

Performance and Economy

You can really feel the power of the engine when driving it, although sometimes the weight of the car made it feel less powerful. I didn't really feel that I ever got the full performance potential from the car. Economy was really awful due to the size of the engine primarily. Even with the large fuel tank, a full tank often didn't last a working week even though it was primarily used for a short commute! As with all petrol cars economy improved with the length of the journey. It definitely wasn't suited to being a city car.

Like to Drive

Overall the car was really comfortable to drive. It felt solid and safe. It was quite a wide and long car though and I sometimes struggled to find a car wash that it could fit through! The two main problems I had driving it were trying to find a parking space long enough for the car in town and visibilty was sometimes obscurred by the front pillars. <

Faults and Repairs

This car suffered a lot from the domino affect in the sense that once one fault occurred it was usually followed by at least two others. Repairs were often very expensive. Parts weren't overly expensive but repairs often took many hours. I learned very quickly NOT to go to a Vauxhall garage to get things fixed also!

Overview

"2004 Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 SXI"

Exterior and Interior

Great looking car with all the features of the Sri/ Gsi models with the exception of great fuel economy from the 1.8 ecotec engine. Body includes bigger bumpers and better alloy wheels than standard models, comes with colour coded side skirts, door handles and mirrors. Overall a good looking mid range model of the iconic vectra.

Performance and Economy

Performance values in the handbook are 115bhp which in today's standards is not a lot, however with the ecotec engine it is more responsive and includes better fuel efficiency. And for a big car that is quite heavy handling and braking or very good and responsive and steering controls are as light as a feather. Average mpg is around 25 urban and upto 36 extra urban.

Like to Drive

Drives like a dream very responsive, smooth on the road with very little road noise. Seats are very comfortable and come with lumbar support and are quite thickly padded for comfort, a very easy vehicle to setup and get comfortable for the driver. Great for long distance and motorway driving. <

Faults and Repairs

The only faults they I could possibly complain about is that vectras get through brake pads considerably quicker than other vehicles in its range I have had 3 vectras from different eras and found the same problem I also drive other vehicles at similar spec and they last a while longer apart from that if you service regular then they will be faultless my last one lasted upto 180000 miles until I had a blow out and rolled it but I can assure you I came out of that vehicle unmarked after rolling three times down a carriage way then hitting a tree and coming to a stop on the roof in the middle if the road. Very impressed with airbags, structural strength etc faultless and it was a pleasure to have an accident in one just to say it works spot on, I know they explain what happens using dummies but when it comes from the horses mouth worth every penny just for the complete satisfaction of safety.
