Brighton to get EV Car Club

One of the UK's prime beach resorts, Brighton, is soon to get an electric car club of its own. It will start off with a Mercedes Vito E-CELL van. The project is managed by City Car Club and members will be able to use the van for local deliveries and collections.

Electric charging point company Elektromotive has been chosen to set up recharging points to meet the new electric car club's needs. The company is going to supply an Elektrobay Rapid Charge station, which is able to charge a compatible electric vehicle's battery to 80% in only 20 minutes. This compares favourably with the seven hours it would take to charge a similar vehicle's batteries using conventional household electricity.

The EV club's very first vehicle, a 100% electric Mercedes Vito van, will be at the disposal of traders who have a business in Brighton's newly created London Road Open Market. The Open Market, a 'green' inner city regeneration project, is the brainchild of The Hyde Group, a company active in the construction of affordable housing.

In an attempt to inform the public about the green credentials of their brand new electric van, the Hyde Group and Electromotive entered the RAC Future Car Challenge that took place over the weekend. They won the award for the Most Energy Efficient Light Commercial Vehicle.

These Vito vans are, of course, also available countrywide.
