First Impressions of the new Volvo V30

At last the Volvo C30 is getting a bigger brother.  The motoring press has published the first spy shots of the new Volvo V30.  The five-door hatchback will directly compete with cars such as the Ford Focus and the Volkswagen Golf.  It might even give the likes of the Mercedes A Class, the new BMW 1 and the Audi A3 a good run for their money.

The prototype was spotted in Sweden.  Despite being heavily camouflaged one can clearly see that the front end has been strongly influenced by the S60 saloon.  The Volvo badge on the grille is unmistakable.

The tall roofline at the rear is practical and will ensure that rear passengers have enough headroom.  It is surrounded by a tidy cluster of LED lights.

Under the skin the car will be a front wheel drive with more rear space than the C30.  It will be given the same engines as the S60 and C30, including the popular 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel and petrol versions.

According to inside sources a DRIVE model with start-stop and CO2 emission levels of well below 100g/km is a very real possibility.

The V30 will have all the latest safety gadgets, including blind spot warning systems and low speed crash mitigation.

The new model will debut at next year's Geneva Motor Show and will appear on showroom floors by June or July 2012.  Interested individuals should prepare themselves for a price tag of about £18,000.
