The motoring press has published the first spy shots of Mercedes beautiful new CLS Shooting Brake Estate and one thing is sure: the car is going to cause many a car buyer to start hunting for a good deal.
Inside sources have told journalists that the new model will make its debut at next years Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The first cars should appear on showroom floors by September next year. Expect a price range between £48,000 and £50,000.
The car will come with the same choice of engines we currently have in the standard CLS. This includes the popular 3.5-litre and 5.5-litre petrol engines and the 2.2-litre and 3-litre diesel engines. A fast and furious AMG version will also be available, which will be powered by a brand new 5.5-litre V8 turbo engine.
All the models will be rear-wheel drive and feature 7-speed automatic transmissions. Apparently there are no plans right now for a hybrid or a four-wheel drive. Mercedes wants to concentrate on the E-Class BlueHybrid model, which will go on sale during the first half of next year.
From the first spy shots of the CLS Estate, it is clear that Mercedes managed to do a very good job of maintaining the character of the original concept car in the production model. Even details such as the curving roofline, steeply raked windscreen and sloping hatch were retained.
The interior of the new model will be virtually identical to that of the current CLS, except for the boot, which will be bigger.
