Peugeot has a rich history when it comes to the small car market, but the new 208 will no doubt be a revolutionary car that reinvents the way we look at the super-mini.
It is cleaner, lighter, smaller and more stylish than the Peugeot 207 and it has been improved in nearly every way imaginable. The company has now published the first official pictures and provided technical details about this exciting car.
Ever since Peugeot showcased the SR1 concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, the company has pursued a completely new direction in the design of their cars. Quality has been improved and the design engineers have reintroduced the sporty driving experience Peugeot owners of the past loved so much.
With the 208 they started with a clean sheet, which is probably why it stands out from its competitors. The car will be available as a five-door and a three-door, both of which are more distinctive than the Volkswagen Polo and definitely more sophisticated than the Ford Fiesta.
The three and five-door versions will be based on the same mechanicals, but their design clearly distinguishes them as separate entities. The three-door, for example, has bars in its grille, while the five-door has mesh. The five-door also has a chrome window trim, which the three-door will not get.
Both models will have fog lamps set into the front bumper and curving rear lights with claw-like graphics.
If you have access to about £10,000, a brand new 208 might well be parked in your garage by June next year.
