New Porsche Boxster Hits The Road

Although the latest Porsche Boxster has not been released yet, the motoring press has already published the first spy shots of this stunningly beautiful car.

From the spy shots it is clear that virtually every body panel is brand new. The car has a more dramatic, bolder profile. At the back the new wrap-around LED brake lights give the new model a smooth, 21st century look.

According to inside sources the inspiration for the cars design comes from the Porsche 911 ± meaning higher quality and clearer instruments.

The windscreen is more steeply raked and the roll over hoops are bigger ± contributing to the cars «roadster image.

The new model carries the code name «981. The spy shots that appeared in the motoring press are of the Boxster S model with its shapely body, flared wheel arches and oversized alloy wheels. The intakes feeding cool air to the rear-mounted engine are also deeper on this model.

Under the bonnet the platform has been borrowed from the forthcoming Porsche 911, due to be released in November 2011. Buyers can expect a longer wheelbase, a wider track and upgraded suspension.

The current 3.4-litre flat six engine will be carried over to the new range, but it will be fitted with stop start technology and the tuning will be adjusted to meet tougher European emissions standards.

The old 2.9-litre six-cylinder engine will be replaced with a smaller turbocharged unit with more horsepower and lower emission levels.
