Those readers who were waiting for the successor to the Peugeot 205 GTi need not wait much longer - the brand new Peugeot 208 super-mini is about to be launched.
It will be lighter and smaller than the car whose place it takes, but expect the newcomer to make even bigger waves in the marketplace than the top selling 207. It has both the looks and the engines needed from a market leader.
The car will compete directly with rivals such as the new Renault Clio and the Ford Fiesta. It will first appear on UK showroom floors in the summer of next year and will reportedly cost more than £10,000 - depending on the specifications levels.
Although the prototype has been heavily disguised, it is clear that its design was inspired by the HR-1 and SR-1 concept cars.
When it gets to the interior, the 208 will be the first super-mini to boast a removable touch screen cabin control system that looks remarkably like the iPad. It will be offered on all models, except the barebones entry level ones and will offer functions such as uploading and storing music and maps.
