Porsche has published the first photos of the brand new 2012 Porsche Carerra Cabriolet. The general public will get the first preview of the new model at the Detroit Motor Show in January next year.
If you can't wait to get your hands on one of these beauties, you will need patience until the 3rd March 2012, when the Carrera will be available in UK showrooms. With prices starting at £79,947 for the standard 3.4-litre 350bhp model, raiding the children's piggy bank might not produce the desired results. For the 3.8-litre 400bhp Carrera S you will have to fork out a cool £89,740. For that price you will at least have a choice of a PDK seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox or a seven-speed manual one.
In line with tradition, Porsche has opted for a fabric top for the latest model, rather than the folding metal roof you will find on its biggest rival, the Mercedes SL. To save weight the folding mechanism is manufactured from magnesium. The smooth profile of the lower roof produces better aerodynamics than that of its predecessor.
The cabriolet will come with the same advanced traction control and steel and aluminium body that is used in the hard-top.
Porsche claims that this will be the best-handling Cabriolet ever, thanks to its wide front track, lower weight, longer wheelbase and stiffer body.
The improved aerodynamics and stop-start system will allow both the 3.8-litre and 3.4-litre versions to deliver 30 miles per gallon.
