Nearly a year ago, at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, famous designer Bijan Pakzad made a deal with British luxury car manufacturer Rolls Royce under the terms of which a limited number of Bijan Edition Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupes would be produced over the next few years.
Sadly Bijan Pakzad did not live to see the end of this project and he died of a heart attack last April. Life, however, goes on and despite his death the project continued. The first of the special Bijan Edition Rolls Royce cars was recently unveiled at a function in front of Pakzads upmarket boutique in Beverly Hills.
The Bijan Rolls Royce has Pakzads imprint all over it. From the wood veneer dashboard with its embedded white diamonds to the bright yellow colour of the car, and the trunk with its picnic set complete with crystal glasses, the new Rolls is a testimony to the lifestyle and tastes of the great designer.
While one can easily get carried away by the history of the car, it is worth noting that this particular Rolls Royce has a V12 engine with a capacity of 6.75 litres. It produces an impressive 450 horsepower.
Bijan executives say they plan to produce at least a dozen of these cars. The price tag will depend on the optional extras, but prepare yourself for an auto loan of between $850,000 and $1.6 million if you want to drive one of these beauties.
We hope that, wherever he is now, Bijan Pakzad is deriving great pleasure from the fact that his dream car will soon be out there on the road.
