BMW sets November date for new 1 Series

BMW has announced a new entry-level diesel 1 Series will enter production later this year alongside new 3 Series models.

The 114d comes in a three or five-door guise and will carry a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine generating an output of 94bhp, which is capable of doing 0-60mph in 12 seconds and reaching a top speed of 115mph.

Running costs have also been addressed as the 1 Series comes with a fuel economy of 65mpg and has capped CO2 emissions at 112g/km. The retail price has yet to be disclosed.

The 1 Series Sports Hatch comes equipped with a suite of BMW EfficientDynamics, including brake energy regeneration, optimum shift indicator, auto start-stop, electromechanical power steering, active aerodynamics and reduced rolling resistance tyres.

BMW has also unveiled its first petrol-powered EfficientDynamics 320i which draws upon a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine to reach 53.3mpg, 124g/km and 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds.

Both models with be displayed on forecourts around the UK in November.
