Executive and sports cars retain popularity

Despite the economic downturn the demand for luxury car models is still high, according to the UK's largest vehicle auction company.

British Car Auctions (BCA) sold 8,356 cars valued at £20,000 or above during the first six months of this year, totalling more than £230 million.

This figure includes a Bentley Continental GTC W12 Supersports model which sold for £129,50 and is the highest value vehicle to be sold by BCA this year.

Luxury used cars often realise more than the maximum guide value given by the CAP guide, which is used in most car auctions.

BCA said the high-end vehicles that they have sold this year go for an average of 102.57 per cent on the top CAP guide value, known as the CAP Clean price.

Communications Director for BCA, Tony Gannon, said: "Successfully remarketing luxury prestige and sports cars calls for a different approach than when dealing with 'bread and butter' fleet cars.

"Because of the additional activity required, it is worth consigning cars for sale early to give your remarketing partner time to get the message across to the buyers."
