Mercedes AMG makes 45th anniversary car

Mercedes is celebrating the 45th anniversary of AMG by releasing a special SLS AMG GT3 model aimed at collectors with a passion for motor sport.

The German car giant is making just five of the hand-built models and the exclusive anniversary model will have the new designo magno graphite matt paint finish and the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine.

The limited edition cars are likely to prove more popular than ever given the recent success of AMG's sports programme. Mercedes AMG won three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT1 World Championship.

It has also racked up 32 wins in the current 2012 Motor Sports Season and the 45th anniversary model represents a celebration of the firm's success over the years.

AMG brand ambassador and record DTM champion Bernd Schneider has been heavily involved in the production of the new model and the five limited edition cars are expected to be extremely sought after with the buyers unlikely to need to resort to car finance or car credit.
