VW unveils more efficient Beetle engines

Two new Volkswagen Beetle engines have been unveiled by the car maker that look set to boost efficiency while providing a range of other novel features for drivers. Firstly the new 2.0-litre 138bhp TDI is said to potentially offer miles to the gallon in the mid-50s and is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed DSG automatic. The second is a 197bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine, which in the UK will only be sold in a choice of Sport specification or two special editions known as Turbo Black and Turbo Silver. Any motorists looking to treat themselves to a special edition may just be tempted by the sound of 'turbo' decals on the side of the car, silver or black door mirrors, body-coloured door rubbing strips and 19-inch 'Tornado' alloy wheels. Alternatively, the 2.0-litre 138bhp TDI will be offered in Design and Sport specifications.
