The Honda Civic is now the car of choice for women drivers looking for an economical vehicle after it won a prestigious accolade at the Paris Motor Show 2012.
The Women's World Car of the Year committee voted the Civic as the winner of its Economy Car section, beating the Volkswagen UP and Ford Fiesta in second and third places respectively. It topped a list of 300 cars nominated by 20 female judges from 11 nations.
Safety, value-for-money, appearance, space, driveability, colour, sex appeal, environmental impact and child friendliness are the main criteria women are interested in, according to the panel.
The award comes just as Honda recently unveiled several new additions to the Civic family in Europe, a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine, a wagon-style model and a new Type R which is due to be on sale in 2015.
Toshiaki Konaka, director of Honda Motor Europe Car Division, received the award from judging panel members Henny Hemmes and Sandy Myhre on the firm's Paris Motor Show stand.
