BMW 3-series scoops magazine award

A BMW has driven away with a host of awards, including BusinessCar Magazine's 2013 Car of the Year.

The BMW 3-series beat Ford B-max to pole position with Audi's A3 coming in third at the annual BusinessCar Awards, while the vehicle also picked up a hat-trick with its third consecutive Manufacturer of the Year.

The model was chosen for its unbeatable combination of competitive running costs, strong performance, impressive environmental credentials and ease of driving.

The BusinessCar Awards are the only honours in the motoring industry that are solely voted for by the readership, with the website saying that the BMW 3-series' quality, efficency and performance is what has kept its hold on the Manufacturer of the Year title.

Ford also picked up the Lower Medium Car of the Year with its Focus and the S-max best MPV, while Jaguar XF has been named BusinessCar's Executive Car of the Year for a second year in a row. The XJ model was named Luxury Car of the Year.

The XF series was chosen for its new additions, such as the new Sportbrake, 2.2-litre fuel efficient diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.

BusinessCar editor, Paul Barker, said BMW still leads the way in quality, efficiency and reliability, which are vital for companies who may need to use business contract hire or car leasing.

He praised those who had picked up awards in an increasingly demanding market and said they should be proud of their achievement, being chosen by those companies who rely on manufacturers designing and producing superior quality.

He said the new 3-series, which was launched a year ago, improved on where its 1-series predecessor left off, leaving its competitors trying to catch up in driving enjoyment and efficiency.

Leasing company Alphabet took home the Service Supplier of the Year award for the second successive year, while Vauxhall's Ampera was named best Green model and Kwik-Fit Fleet was honoured in the Fast-fit category for its 20 years of service to the industry.

Mr Barker added: "It's no surprise to see the new BMW 3-series follow in the wheeltracks of the 1-series, which took the 2012 Business Car of the Year award, and it shows that those people operating fleets of vehicles understand and appreciate the job BMW is doing."
