Mercedes releases new E-Class details

Details of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon and Estate have been released ahead of the official UK launch in April.

The German car giant has produced a brand new SE model with a choice of new, more efficient engines. There are three diesel engines, the E 220 CDI, E 250 CDI and E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, and two petrol ones, the E 200 (Saloon only) and E 250.

And it claims that the new SE not only has enhanced driving dynamics but is also far better value than its predecessor, with £4,000 of additional standard equipment but a price tag that is just £2,280 higher starting from £32,495 OTR.

Perhaps the greatest change in the new E-Class can be found at the front-end, where the manufacturer has designed new headlamps with a single lens replacing the old "twin headlight" design as it strives for a contemporary and sporty look.

The new model offers up to 11 new or optimised "Intelligent Drive" assistance systems and there are some notable optional extras, with four surround view cameras providing a 360° view to assist with parking (£715) for starters.

There is also an LED Intelligent Light System and Adaptive High Beam Assist (£1,280), nappa leather (£1,935) and AirMATIC semi-active air suspension with self-levelling and Adaptive Damping System (£1,455).

The AMG Sport model, which offers the 350 BlueTEC engine as well as the options for the SE, also reportedly has nearly £3,000 of extra standard features and costs £575 more than the previous Sport model with prices beginning at £34,895 OTR.

There are a range of car finance options available as well, with Mercedes-Benz Finance "Agility PCP" offering the E-Class E 220 CDI SE Saloon manual for £319 per month with a £5,407 customer deposit and the E 220 CDI SE Estate costing £10 per month more.

The E 63 AMG is also an option if your budget can stretch to the higher price of £699 per month with a £7,995 customer deposit. It does boast significantly more power and torque than other alternatives though, with 557 hp and 720 Nm.

It also comes with 19" AMG wheels, a dual louvre grille with central Mercedes-Benz star, panoramic sunroof, nappa leather upholstery, Keyless Go, AMG Performance steering wheel and Intelligent Light System all as standard.

The firm hopes it has found a winning combination of a powerful and efficient engine, whether it be petrol or diesel, pioneering technology for safety and comfort and modern style.
