Big families need big cars. Anyone with children knows that the back seats of a car are a battleground for space and comfort, and when you have 7 seats to fill, the battle for room is even fiercer.

Many of our customers come to Creditplus looking for a big family car but are unsure which one is right for them. So we’ve put together a list of our top 7-seater MPVs that could be the ideal family car for you.

We’ve looked at the best MPVs on the market, choosing 7 for our list based on the amount of space, their practicality, running costs and, most importantly, safety.

Toyota Verso

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

The Toyota Verso sacrifices style for substance. The car scores well in the areas that matter most for families: reliability, economy and practicality.

There is plenty of space on the inside, possibly the most important factor for 7-seaters. The Verso also does well on running costs, especially the diesel 1.8 engine model.

This car won’t set any pulses racing when it gets going, but does exactly what you need it to for a big family car.

Vauxhall Zafira Tourer

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

Economical and spacious, the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is a 7-seater that can fit 7 adults across all 3 rows of seats. Something that is not always the case with MPVs unless you like a tight squeeze.

The interior styling is a highlight for this model, adding to the comfortable feel inside. It is also quite fun to drive for its size, with a good sense of control over the car - important for vehicles of this class.

Renault Grand Scenic

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

The Renault Grand Scenic benefits from Renault’s highly economical engines. Low emissions combine with a good MPG, all positive ticks in the running costs department.

You’ll need this, especially when moving a full complement of 7 around town. You’ll be surprised how having the weight of your whole family in the car will cost you in fuel.

For extra space, you can completely remove the middle row of seats from the car, ideal for that little extra legroom.

Renault have worked hard to make their cars as safe as possible and it's reflected in the excellent safety technology in the Grand Scenic.

Peugeot 5008

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

The Peugeot 5008 is onw of the stronger all rounders available on the MPV market. It has a practical spacious interior combined with a stylish approach to the decor that adds to the overall feeling of comfort.

The HDi diesel engine models make for the best economy if fuel costs are one of your biggest concerns.

The 5008 is a surprisingly quiet drive for its size, with very little road noise seeping in. Perfect if you have little ones trying to sleep.

Ford S-Max

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

Possibly the highest-rated MPV on the market, the Ford S-Max has taken lessons learnt from the popular Ford Galaxy and implemented them well.

Now in its second generation, the car ticks all the boxes in both practicality and style. It's distinctively Ford exterior styling helps lessen the bulky look that can often affect MPVs – looks are a surprisingly common concern amongst car buyers.

Seats can be folded and adjusted to create more space. The rear row of seats is a little cramped for adults, but you can comfortably fit adults in the middle row.

Citroen C4 Grand Picasso

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

Ever since the first Picasso was revealed in the funky art inspired advert, the model has had a reputation for attractive exterior styling.

The Citroen C4 Grand Picasso is no exception. But it’s not all looks. Interior space is good, especially in the roomy second row.

Another bonus is that all three middle seats come with ISOFIX fittings so you can fit three child seats. Ideal for triplets or sharing the school run.

Overall, the Grand Picasso combines practicality plus a sense of style, making it an excellent choice for anyone but the highly specific buyer.

Kia Carens

Euro NCAP rating: 5 stars out of 5

A well built practical entry into the MPV market, the Kia Carens prefers a smooth comfortable drive to engine power. Family cars don’t need to be too quick, so the Carens doesn’t suffer too much there.

One of the areas Carens excels in is storage, with plenty of pockets and spaces located throughout the car – ideal for transporting all the paraphernalia families require.

An attractive feature of the Carens is Kia’s 7-year warranty. So if you buy a nearly new model, you should still be under manufacturer warranty.
