Our best selling car of 2013, the BMW 3-Series, has stolen the best car deal of the month spotlight for April, and for good reason. The 3-Series 320d is a brilliant all-rounder, and its popularity is comparable to the Ford Mondeo in its heyday. We’ve put together a comprehensive review to help you decide if this is the car for you, but if you’d rather see what our customers have to say, check out the video below!

Price and Running Costs

The BMW 3-Series is widely considered a prestige car, with an executive image and famed German build quality. A brand new car will cost from £23,550 to £43,680 depending on the specification chosen, but a 3 year old model with low mileage will cost around £18,000. If you decide to take out finance, opt for a Personal Contract Purchase (available to those with a good credit score) to bring monthly payments down. By their nature, BMW’s hold their value well, and resale will not be an issue.

Fuel economy is superb, especially the 320d Efficient Dynamics model, which BMW claim can achieve over 70mpg. Equally, emissions are low, at just 109g/km meaning the vehicle tax turns out to be remarkably cheap, even on the sportier models.

BMW has a very reasonable reputation when it comes to the reliability of their vehicles, and thanks to the size of the company, it’ll never be difficult to locate spare parts and get your car fixed for a fair price at a local dealership or garage.

Bought new, the car comes with a generous 3 year, unlimited mileage, manufacturer’s warranty, after which extended warranties can be purchased relatively cheaply to cover most necessary repairs and wear and tear.

WhatCar scored the BMW 3-Series 4 out of 5 stars for reliability, citing German manufacturing and quality as the key contributing factors.

The BMW 3-Series achieved an impressive 5 star rating from Euro NCAP, thanks to a number of safety systems. These include six airbags as standard and BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control which includes ABS, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control.

Optional safety features include the Active Security Package which includes lane change and lane departure-warning systems –ideal for those expecting to do lots of motorway mileage.

With lots of gadgets, it can be easy to over-complicate the cabin, but thankfully BMW have kept the controls solid and simple with their patented iDrive infotainment system which is described by WhatCar as ‘the epitome of clarity.’

Even the entry level cars come equipped with climate control, alloys and Bluetooth as standard. The next spec up comes with dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers, whilst the M Sport models – the most popular here at Creditplus – get full leather sport seats, a sports steering wheel and larger alloys.

There’s plenty of room both in the back and the front for even your tallest friends and family, and the boot space is ample, with 480 litres, big enough for your shopping or your luggage. Folding rear seats will cost extra, but significantly extend that room if needs be.

The ride is tight and smooth, and the steering precise. In terms of the drive, it doesn’t get much better in this class of car. Opt for a model with the adaptive M Sport suspension and you’ll get a car that outranks its rivals by miles.
